Backing up is Very important.
Unfortunately a lot of people don’t think about backing up until it is too late.
Below is some information about backing up
There are 2 basic ways to backup.
Don’t make it too complicated!
1) Online backup
a. Good
i. Automatic
ii. Don’t have to think about it
iii. Easy to use
iv. Fast if only dealing with a few files
b. The not so good
i. Initial backup is slow
ii. If you have a lot of data to recover it’s slow
iii. Backup is delayed up to 48 hours. Which means if you created a file in the last 2 days and you accidently delete it, you can’t recover.
c. In conjunction with local backups we use Carbonite for our online backup needs. It is easy, secure and most important offsite.

2) Local backup
a. Use a removable hard drive (i.e. USB hard drive).
i. Good
1. Copy and paste Files you want to backup (easy).
a. Take the time to organize before starting this.
i. Create a File structure so you can easily find the backup data by date. It’s important to have multiple copies because files do sometimes become corrupt.
1. We create backups under files that are named by date. Then when you make a new backup all you have to do is create a folder with the name of the date (i.e. 2008.03.05). Now we just copy and paste our data and it is easy to find.
2. Fast recovery. It is local and much fast than downloading off the internet.
3. You are reassured it is happening, because you see it.
ii. BAD
1. In cases of Theft or fire it’s gone.
2. Tedious to perform backup
a. You can get programs to automatically do this, but make sure your usb drive is plugged in if this is where your backups reside.
